Proposal for Heavitree Brewery
Prepared by Robert Boyd, BOYD Creative
Dear Ryan and the Heavitree Brewery team,
Thank you for taking the time to read through this proposal. I’m Robert Boyd, founder of BOYD Creative—a branding and design studio based in Newton Abbot. I specialise in helping South West businesses elevate their presence through thoughtful branding, web design, packaging, and marketing.
One of my earliest projects was the rebrand of The Globe in Chudleigh, which played a part in the pubs resurgence. The feedback from both the client and the local community has been incredibly positive—something I’m proud to have been part of.
Following a great conversation with Ryan, I developed a services booklet to share with other pubs in the Heavitree network, in case there’s interest in rebranding similar to The Globe. This is now with Ryan and ready to use, pending any feedback you might have.
During our meeting, we also briefly discussed the idea of a potential rebrand for Heavitree Brewery itself. While Ryan mentioned that this may not be something you’re currently exploring, I took the opportunity to put together a light proposal. There’s absolutely no pressure—this is simply something I felt inspired to create and share, should it be of interest now or in the future.
The Proposal
At BOYD Creative, we believe great design starts with respect for heritage. My concept builds on Heavitree Brewery’s rich visual history while evolving it into a more modern, flexible identity.
Two visual cues stood out in historic imagery and print: the distinctive typography and the use of deep red tones paired with a more subtle gold—a shift from the current vibrant yellow. These elements informed the foundation of this updated identity.
The Colour Palette
Referencing archival materials and applying a contemporary eye, I developed a new colour system that reintroduces Heavitree red, alongside two more refined gold tones—light and dark—for versatile contrast and tone control across different brand applications.
The Logo
The updated primary logo retains the iconic barley and sickle motif—refined into a bold, circular lockup that enhances scalability and brand cohesion. It’s designed to feel timeless, confident, and distinctly Heavitree.
This new mark is built for flexibility, translating across print, digital, merchandise, and signage while staying rooted in your legacy.
Logo Adaptability
Logo Adaptability
The new logo system is made up of three key components:
1. The Icon
2. The Wordmark
3. The Established Date
These elements can be arranged in various lockups to form a cohesive logo suite—ideal for everything from uniforms to wall signs.
Application
For example:
The Primary logo or Curved Logo are ideal for branded clothing.
The Icon works great for small digital uses, social media avatars, or pin badges.
The full lockup works best on signage, packaging, and heritage materials.
Additional Support from BOYD Creative
A refreshed identity unlocks broader opportunities for brand consistency across platforms. Should you be interested, I can also provide:
Website Design & Development
A modern, responsive website for Heavitree Brewery that tells your story and centralises your pub network. Designed for easy updates, strong SEO, and mobile-first browsing.
Pub Directory Integration
An interactive map or listing of all Heavitree Brewery pubs with individual pages for each venue—showcasing menus, events, and booking links to help boost footfall and engagement.
Social Media Support
Support with content planning, post design, campaign creation, and branded templates—ensuring consistent, high-quality storytelling across Instagram, Facebook, and X (Twitter).
Conclusion
Thank you again for your time and consideration.
I’d love the opportunity to continue developing this concept into a full identity package if it’s something you'd like to explore. Likewise, I’m happy to support with any of the broader services mentioned—whether it’s brand-led updates for individual pubs, digital upgrades, or campaign support.
If you'd like to discuss any of the ideas here further, just let me know.
Many thanks,
Robert Boyd
